Was first synthesised in 1834 by Antoine Jérôme Balard, which led to its early use in medicine and sanitation – it was used as a wound sanitiser during both World War I and II. 2

Has been reported in the literature as an effective antimicrobial, antiviral, antiseptic, disinfectant and wound cleaner. 3,4,5

Approved by the US FDA for use on food products and in certain clinical applications such as wound care,6 and the US EPA as a surface disinfectant.7
